
IIHS offers undergraduate and graduate courses, doctoral, applied research and executive education programmes in Urban Practice. The first Masters’ Programme (MUP) is expected be offered in 2012 and will welcome students from a range of undergraduate disciplines. The Bachelors’ Programme (BUP) will roll out two or three years hence.
IIHS will draw learners from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds into its interdisciplinary professional programmes on ‘urban practice’. The undergraduate and graduate degree programme will be of considerable interest to a wide variety of students including those who might be thinking of pursuing studies in science, engineering, medicine, the humanities, social sciences, law and commerce.
IIHS has a deep commitment to the process of social transformation in India by providing educational opportunities to deserving learners irrespective of economic and social status, gender, age or disability.
A pan-national search process and special bridge programmes will help draw in and build the core skills of hitherto socially and economically excluded learners. Lateral entry from multiple disciplinary streams will be facilitated via special transition programmes
The under-graduate BUP degree programme will be open to students from all +2 streams: science (engineering and medicine), commerce and the humanities who demonstrate superior interdisciplinary and learning potential.
The Post Graduate MUP degree programme will be open to students from a range of disciplines including: architecture, commerce, economics, the humanities, law, mathematics, medicine, planning, the sciences, social sciences and technology.
A combination of evaluation procedures will be adopted to ensure that learners at IIHS are chosen based on interdisciplinary and multi-dimensional human competencies and sensibilities, irrespective of previous academic stream or discipline. This will be enabled by a multi-dimensional assessment system which will be technologically robust, cost effective and accessible to interested learners.

The IIHS practitioner will have to work as problem-solver, innovator, planner, changemaker and entrepreneur, playing a key role in transforming India’s cities, towns and villages.
The IIHS Masters and Undergraduate programmes will provide a deep understanding of a range of areas including economic drivers of urbanisation, urban planning, physical infrastructure, transportation systems, social infrastructure and social justice, land and housing, public safety and disaster management, environment and sustainability, and urban governance.
The IIHS urban practitioner equipped with a critical interdisciplinary perspectives and sensibilities can expect to build a career as an entrepreneur, with the public and corporate sectors, academic or research institution or domestic and international NGOs and multilateral agencies.
