Shashi Kala is an associate at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements – India’s first prospective National Innovation University addressing the challenges of urbanisation through an integrated programme of education, research, consulting and advisory services.

Shashi Kala works under the IIHS Urbanisation Atlas project which includes carrying out land-use land cover analysis for 400 cities, producing and documenting the output. She supports IIHS in geospatial analysis and generation of data and participates in research projects taken up by the geospatial lab of IIHS. She also participates in executive education and short-training courses in GIS and remote sensing. The workshops she has participated in include “Discussion Meeting on OpenSource GIS in India: Present Scenario” and “Urban Lake Monitoring and Management” at the Centre for infrastructure, Sustainable transport and Urban Planning (CiSTUP), IISc, Bangalore.
Shashikala was formerly associated with the geoinformatics Lab of CiSTUP, Indian Institute of Science as a project assistant for a period of one year. She has also been a consultant with Gubbi Labs,a private research enterprise that works on a host of domains ranging from sustainable ecosystems to livable settlements.
In her current and previous roles she has been involved in collecting primary and secondary data,
handling remote sensing imagery, analysis, interpretation, report writing, documentation and presentation of results.
Shashi Kala is a creative person who likes designing clothes and experimenting with cooking. She also loves traveling, sketching nature and playing volleyball.
