Dr. H S Sudhira is a faculty member at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) – India’s first prospective National Innovation University addressing the challenges of urbanisation through an integrated programme of education, research, consulting, and advisory services.

Education:

  • Masters, Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation with a specialisation in Geoinformatics, the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), Enchede, Netherlands
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Environmental Engineering , Visveswaraiah Technological University, Belgaum, India ( June 2002)

Career Highlights
Sudhira has been a summer Research Fellow, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore during 1998 and 2000. In addition, he has received the Indian Institute of Science Fellowship for Research Scholars (Jan 2005 – Dec 2007) and the NUFFIC Fellowship, the Netherlands. The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India has awarded Dr. Sudhira with a Foreign Travel Grant, 2007.

Awards & Recognitions

Sudhira’s PhD thesis has been endorsed by Urbanisation and Global Environmental Change (UGEC), an IHDP Core Project. His article in International Journal of Applied Earth Observation and Geo-information is among the Top 25 Hottest Articles at # 3 position during Oct 2009 – September 2010 with Number of Citations: 35 as per SciVerse Scopus.

Areas of interest
Sudhira has worked on studying the evolution and growth of towns and cities, their land-use and land cover changes, planning practices, governance structures and mobility. With a strong desire to carry out independent and grounded research, he has established Gubbi Labs, a private research enterprise that works on a host of domains ranging from sustainable ecosystems to livable settlements.

In a Lighter Vein:
Sudhira is a volunteer with India Literacy Project. When he is not mapping people and places, he pretends to watch birds.
