Dr. David Satterthwaite is a senior advisor for the Indian Institute for Human Settlements, Bangalore – India’s first prospective National Innovation University addressing the challenges of urbanisation through an integrated programme of education, research, consulting and advisory services.

Dr. David Satterthwaite is a senior fellow at the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). He is also a visiting professor at the University College London.
Dr.Satterthwaite was the lead author (third assessment) and review editor (fourth assessment) of the chapter on Human Settlements of the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change from 1999-2007. He was a member of the scoping team and the coordinating lead author for the fifth assessment in 2009.
Dr.Satterthwaite has been a member of the US National Academy of Science on ‘Panel on Urban Population Dynamics’ (2000-2002). He has also been a member of the UN Millennium Project Taskforce on ‘Improving the Lives of Slum Dwellers’ (2003-2006).
- Recipient of the 2004 Volvo Environment Prize.
- Part of the IPCC team that was co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, 2007.
- Honorary Professor, University of Hull.
Dr. Satterthwaite’s interests lie in urbanisation, reducing urban poverty and climate change adaptation.
